Design Trend – Seaside

Seaside colors, motifs and patterns abound this spring.  From coral to seashells, a touch of the ocean can be found on home decor and accessories.  Following are some of my favorites:

West Elm has a new shower curtain with a huge coral graphic printed on it, featuring some of my favorite bathroom hues – blues and greens:

Williams Sonoma Home offers a wide array of seaside decor this year, including seahorse pillows, shore bird artwork, this barnacle tube vase and these vintage fishing floats.  I especially get a kick out of that last item.  My brother-in-law and nephew Noah fish in Alaska each summer; Noah was kind enough to collect some of these from the beach for me during one of his last trips north.  Apparently,  the floats are used in the Japanese fishing trade, and wash to shore when they break away from their nets, waiting for a kid like Noah to collect them.  None were this large (12-1/2″ diameter), but my fishing floats are glass and vary in color, showcasing all shades of blues and greens.  I love them!  I guess we were ahead of the curve on that one.  🙂

Pottery Barn also has fishing floats in several sizes – both vintage and “newly recycled.”  If sealife is what you are looking for, look no further.  From faux starfish to seashells, they have it all.  I especially like this faux coral; it has a wonderful, graphic look.

For those of you who want to include seagulls in your nautical decor, Ballard Designs has just the thing:

They also have a turtle stool – how cute is that?

Even if you don’t live on the beach, adding a touch of the seashore to your home decor is easy with all the options available this season.
