If you find yourself living in a small space, I just read a book I’d love to share with you! Full of crafty ideas, storage solutions and tips for adding personality to your small space, this book is a wonderful resource.
Living in a Nutshell by Janet Lee contains some wonderful ideas for small-space living. Whether you live in a postage-stamp sized rental apartment or a tiny bungalow, you are sure to find some tips that will help you make the most of your space.
I especially like the fact that this book also takes rental situations into account; some of the decorating options she offers are designed to be easily removable when it’s time to pack up and move on to your next home. These include covering your boring cabinetry with fabric and using custom static-cling film for privacy at your windows, to name just two.
However, not every idea is strictly made for small-space living. I found many ideas that I could incorporate into my own home (not that it’s huge, mind you) or into the homes of my clients. A few of my faves:
- Creating custom burn-out velvet fabric to make into trendy pillows.
- Reupholstering benches with inexpensive vintage burlap or wool blankets.
- Making a window shade from a extra-long twin sheet – very clever!
The author also includes some great resources at the back of the book for the products she uses in her projects. This section makes it much easier to find or order the items you need to recreate her decor. Children’s spaces are also touched on in the book, offering some fun projects and inspiration.
She does not include step-by step instructions for every project. The author assumes you will have some know-how. However, the volume does serve as great inspiration, even if you adapt the project to suit your needs, available materials or style.
Whether you live in a tiny space or you just love a good home decor craft project, check out Living in a Nutshell; I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
