If you’ve ever watched Giada De Laurentiis cook a fabulous Italian dinner on television, you’ve probably heard of Marsala wine. Thanks to Pantone, you will likely be finding Marsala throughout your home in 2015…not just in your dinner.
Every year, the color experts at Pantone share their pick for the color to watch in the upcoming year. This year, they selected Marsala as THE color of 2015. This reddish brown hue is warm and inviting, yet not bright or garish.
“This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing, and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute.
I know that some interior designers and decorators were less-than-enthusiastic about Marsala. Perhaps it’s not as exciting a color as they had hoped for; after all, the past several years, we’ve enjoyed Emerald Green, Tangerine Tango and Radiant Orchid. Marsala is decidedly less “wow” than those hues, and a bit more subdued overall.
On the other hand, it signals a return of red to interior design, which seems to have left many of the trendy color palettes in recent years.
What do you think? Can you see yourself bringing Marsala into your home in 2015?
