Guest Post: Choose New Light and Plumbing Fixtures to Change Your Home’s Personality

Lighting and plumbing fixtures go a long way toward adding personality and flair to a home.  With just a quick change in either one, you can make a traditional home feel more modern, and vice versa.  In today’s guest post, Tina Madsen offers some tips on how to make some key changes in your home to create a space you can fall in love with all over again.

Do you remember the feeling of seeing your new home for the very first time? It was just like falling in love, wasn’t it? Well, you can get that feeling all over again by renovating your home.

The word “renovation” may sound overwhelming to some, thinking that it involves a complete overhaul of their living space. That’s not necessarily true. Home improvement or renovation may refer simply to making some smart updates in your lighting and a few key areas in the home such as your kitchen and bath. Following are some tips on what you can do and what tools you can use.

Bath

You have the option of choosing a traditional, transitional, or modern look for your bath. A quick way to achieve a certain atmosphere is to bedeck the shower enclosure, tub and vanity with fixtures that exude the aura you want. There are several good brands that are worth checking out, namely Kichler, Delta, and Kohler.

If you choose to go with a traditional bath, you can achieve the perfect look simply by putting in place a Kichler Cheswick wall sconce, Kohler Sunward air tub, and a Victorian Delta sink faucet. For the transitional look, you may have the Kohler Thoreau bathroom sink and Cavata sink faucet and toilet installed. To achieve the modern look, you could put in place a Kohler Escale mirror, vanity, toilet, and soaking tub along with their Kohler Symbol shower faucet, tub faucet, and sink faucet.

Kitchen

As with your bath, you can also choose to design your kitchen with a traditional, transitional, or modern look. For a traditional kitchen, you may want to consider changing some of your lighting and plumbing fixtures. Some good choices in this case are the GROHE Bridgeford kitchen faucet, Kohler Whitehaven kitchen sink and the Kichler Wickham pendalette.  Traditional-style fixtures feature ornate designs and rich finishes.

To give your kitchen a transitional look, you could equip it with the Kohler Undertone sink and Kohler Forte kitchen faucet. If you prefer a modern look for your kitchen, then you may want to get the Kichler Brinbourne pendant, Kichler under cabinet light, Blanco Precision kitchen sink and the GROHE LadyLux kitchen faucet.

Lighting

For lighting the different rooms in your home, you also have several styles to choose from. Other than traditional, transitional, and modern, you also have the option to use the craftsman, rustic, Tiffany glass, or crystal styles to light your home.  Choose light fixtures that reflect the look you want in your home, which could be different the style your home already exudes.  New light fixtures can make your home feel more traditional or more modern very easily.

The traditional style of lighting is characterized by elegance and often features rich materials and classical motifs. It generally mimics the decorating style of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The transitional style is characterized by simple sophistication and involves a good blend of both traditional and modern styles. It features either rounded profiles or straight lines. The modern style features neutral elements and focuses on clean and simple lines, forms, and shapes. Products classified under the modern style generally have a light look and feel. The craftsman style is also referred to as the Arts and Crafts or Mission style. Its main characteristic is the use of rectilinear shapes; it features spare ornamentation and exposed joinery.

The rustic or lodge style is characterized by a reflection on nature. It features such elements as branches, logs, antlers, bark accents, unpolished stones, and unfinished timber. The goal is usually to create a natural and warm look. The Tiffany style is characterized by soldered glass of various colors. Copper foil is typically used for soldering and organic or geometric patterns are typically used for the design. The crystal style is also characterized by colored glass, but unlike the glass of the Tiffany style, these are clear-cut and made to resemble ice. Crystal products are often paired with other materials, most often with wood. This style of lighting can actually go with almost all decorating styles. Other lighting styles you may also want to consider are the art deco, European, Mediterranean, tropical, or drum style.

If you don’t have much experience in decorating and aren’t really sure what look you want for your home, then you may want to consider seeking advice from an experienced interior decorator. They can help you bring out your home’s natural beauty and the personality you want to showcase in your home. Once you’re able to achieve this, it should be easy to fall in love with your abode all over again.

  1. Great blog about selecting new light and plumbing fixtures. GROHE and Kohler are great fixture brands and I would also highly recommend Moen faucet as well. Beautiful faucets, cost efficient and Moen offer terrific warranty on cartridges and parts. Thanks for a great read.

Selection of light and the relative plumbing fixtures for your home or work place requires a lot of research. This article has pointed out some essential factors to make it easier and convenient for you to go through your plumbing work.

  3. Kitchens and baths sell homes. Do not be cheap. Pick fixtures that scream elegant or luxurious if you want to sell a home fast or just make your life seem more pleasant.
