Color Trend: Emerald Green

Pantone, the color experts, recently named Emerald Green the Color of the Year for 2013.  They describe this color as “Lively. Radiant. Lush…A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”  In the coming months, you can be sure that Emerald will be showing up in clothing stores and home decor boutiques alike.  Read on for a peek at some of the great items you can already find in this trendy color, and tips on how to bring it successfully into your home.

Unlike the earthy, olive, sage greens that have been popular in recent years, Emerald has more blue undertones and is less gray than its relatives.  This jewel tone is less of a neutral than its earthier counterparts, bringing a punch of color into a room.  Nonetheless, Emerald is at home in many different color schemes.  This pillow available currently from Target illustrates one of those color schemes beautifully.  Pair emerald with various blues and greens for a fresh take on those earthy hues.

This little gem also shows how easy it can be to bring emerald into your existing color scheme.  If you already have olive, sage or sky blue in your home, Emerald can play nicely with all of those hues – no need to redecorate your entire home to achieve this trendy look.

Emerald also works well with a pop of yellow, as you can see from the pillow above as well as in this simple plastic storage bin, also from Target:

And, of course, I can’t forget my favorite home decor shopping site, Etsy.  This hand-printed houndstooth pillow from Giardino would be gorgeous on nearly any sofa or chair:

Emerald green also pairs nicely with navy, charcoal gray, chocolate brown and tangerine.  Nearly any color scheme can benefit from the fresh addition of emerald.  Expect to see Emerald popping up all over the home decor world over the coming year, and find a way to bring a touch of it into your home this year!
